In cooperation with company and scientific partners, the team “Wood Composites & Digital Transformation” - located at the area Wood Materials and Technologies in Tulln - is looking for a:
Junior researcher for a dissertation in data science for wood tracing (PhD) (f/m/d)
Our team conducts research within the field of wood composites research and in the digitisation of production processes of wood and engineered wood products.
Your work will be focused on the integration and application of data science technologies for tracing wood along its value chain. Together with partners from industry and science, approaches are developed and evaluated at laboratory scale. The PhD thesis will be supervised at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna.
Your responsibility:
- Conducting research in computer vision techniques to trace wood using patterns of its unique characteristics – e.g. knots, year rings, etc. – and the application of newest data science technologies in the field of AI
- Design, implementation and evaluation of experiments
- Scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and at international scientific conferences
Your qualification:
- University degree (master’s, diploma), preferably in Statistics, Engineering, Technical Mathematics, IT or Wood Science
- First experiences in data science
- Experience with code development (e.g. Python, MATLAB, R, C++, etc.)
- Good knowledge in spoken and written English
