The Pichia Conference 2026 was held from March 24th – 27th, 2026 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. This internationally renowned event brought together experts, researchers, and industry leaders to explore the latest advancements and applications of Pichia pastoris (Komagataella phaffii), fostering the exchange of groundbreaking research and innovative solutions that are shaping the future of biotechnology.
Wood K plus was represented by Clara Goldin, a Junior Researcher in the Biorefinery Processes & Composite Materials Department, who is currently pursuing her PhD at BOKU University in Vienna. At the conference, Clara presented her research on sustainable acetic acid production, offering valuable insights into the metabolic flexibility of the yeast Pichia pastoris.
Her project focuses on integrating the production of this key platform chemical with the use of methanol derived from lignin-rich biomass and industrial waste streams. In her poster, Clara explored methanol-driven acetic acid production, aiming to redirect methanol metabolism toward acetate formation while minimising carbon loss to ethanol and biomass.
She not only demonstrated the feasibility of coupling sustainable methanol valorisation with bio-based acetic acid production in P.pastoris, but she also won the prize for the best poster!
The conference was an invaluable opportunity to exchange ideas with leading experts and gain insights into cutting-edge developments, supported by a diverse program of keynote presentations. Beyond the sessions, she actively engaged in networking, sharing Wood K plus achievements in biosynthesis and renewable production, while also learning from peers and collaborators.
The knowledge and connections gained at the conference will undoubtedly strengthen ongoing projects and help position Wood K plus at the forefront of innovation in renewable resources.
We are proud of Clara and the entire team for representing Wood K plus with such enthusiasm and professionalism at this prestigious event.
