Biodiversity and Multifunctional Forest Management in Upper Austrian Forests

Mischwald_Weißenbachtal_2023_OEBF_Wolfgang Lienbacher

Project goals & contents:

BIMUWA 2 brings together researchers, forestry practitioners, and other stakeholders to develop regional biodiversity guidelines, practical recommendations, and fact sheets for forests in Upper Austria. The project aims to establish voluntary, practical, and easily implementable measures to enhance biodiversity in multifunctionally managed forests. Its main focus is on the conservation and restoration of habitats, the strengthening of ecosystem services, and supporting forest adaptation to climate change.

An accompanying study investigates stakeholders’ intentions to implement the developed biodiversity measures and the factors influencing their adoption. The findings will be used to further refine the measures and recommendations, contributing to biodiversity-friendly, multifunctional forest management.
