Wood K plus receives a grant for the COMET Module i³Sense
The Ministry of Climate Action and the Ministry of Digital and Economic Affairs are investing twelve million euros in six new COMET modules in the coming years. With this funding decision, the two ministries are following the recommendation of an international jury of experts. "Climate-friendly innovations are the best way for Austria to prepare for the future. With the COMET programme we have the optimal tool to support our companies in research and development and thus to develop new products and processes that offer solutions to the problems of today and tomorrow. In this way, we enable domestic companies to become more competitive overall and to continue to make progress at the top internationally," emphasised Climate Action Minister Leonore Gewessler in the context of the announcement of the funding decision.

Projektpartner*innen sind der Verein Technologykids Tulln, die BOKU, das ZOOM Kindermuseum, die Hochschule für Agrar- und Umweltpädagogik sowie die Firmen Fritz Egger und Metadynea Austria.

Im Zuge eines EFRE Investprojektes wurde das Portfolio des Kompetenzzentrums durch ein Ultramikrotom erweitert. Das Arbeiten mit dem Ultramikrotom eröffnet bei Wood K plus neue Einblicke in Holzprodukte und biobasierte Verbundwerkstoffe.
Effiziente Vorfertigung von Holzbauelementen durch Spatial Augmented Reality und KI
Assistenzsysteme für die Holzbe- und verarbeitung kombinieren die Kreativität des Menschen mit der Objektivität und Wiederholgenauigkeit eines Computersystems – zB. beim Zusammenbau von Objekten oder bei der Qualitätssicherung. So gilt auch im Holzbau die Devise: Menschen werden bei ihren Tätigkeiten unterstützt und nicht durch Maschinen ersetzt.
Project „MyBreathMask“ – Respirators with the highest level of comfort and safety
Initiated by HARATECH GmbH, several Austrian partners are working on the development of modular and customizable FFP2-3 respirator masks. In the project, Wood K plus is responsible for the selection of materials and the additivation of the polymers.

Integrated Innovation Process 5.5 – Management of new ideas and subjects for a successful future of the center
The internal innovation process at the center (Integrated Innovation Process 5.5) was launched in 2015 with the aim of developing innovative ideas. Since the start of the process, a total number of 138 ideas have been submitted by all areas of the center. A classic three step gate-stage-process guides the progress of new ideas, subjects and concepts that might be relevant for future research and the thematic strategy of Wood K plus.

In the course of a collaboration with company Haratech GmbH within the COMET program and the European research project Re-FREAM, first prototypes could be weaved and knitted based on a drawing of an innovative filament for the fashion industry on a blank sheet of paper within development time of only eight months.
