As a leading research organisation in the area of wood and wood-related renewable resources in Europe, the Kompetenzzentrum Holz GmbH (Wood K plus) provides research and development services for the industry in the field of wood composite materials and wood chemistry.


In cooperation with company and scientific partners, the team “Wood Composites & Digital Transformation” - located at the area Wood Materials and Technologies in Tulln - is looking for a

 

Junior Researcher for a dissertation (PhD)

 

Our team conducts research within the field of wood composites research as well as in digitisation of production processes of wood and engineered wood products.

 

Your responsibility:

Your work will be focused on the integration and application of Big-Data-technologies along the value chain of wood. Together with partners from industry and science, approaches are developed and evaluated at laboratory scale. Thereby knowledge will be gained for:

 

  • image analysis using computer vision techniques
  • machine learning for process control and quality assessment
  • data quality assessment
  • models used for transparent and secure data ecosystems
  • design of experiments
  • evaluation and interpretation of examinations
  • presentations of results at industry partners and national / international scientific conferences
  • creation of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals

 

Your qualification:

  • university degree (master’s, diploma), preferably in Wood Science, Mathematics, Physics, IT or Mechanical Engineering
  • experience in data mining techniques (e.g. MATLAB, Python, R, C++, etc.)
  • experience in ICT techniques
  • good knowledge in spoken and written English
